EMT - Launch M-Ticketing

EMT (Empresa Malagueña de Transportes) customers can now pay and receive bus tickets in their mobile phones


EMT (Empresa Malagueña de Transportes) is the first Spanish public transport company effectively and successfully using mobile ticketing. EMT passengers are now able to pay and receive bus tickets in their own mobile phones.

With this project, EMT offers the mobile ticketing service in three Malaga bus lines (8, 20 and 22), having has plan to implement this system to all company bus lines in two years.

The service is very simple to passengers.

EMT customers can order the ticket by giving a command on the mobile phone (USSD) inserting the EMT ordering code.

After that the customers receive a SMS message with the ticket price and a 2D code as the mobile ticket (M-Ticket). The ticket price is charged on the phone invoice or deducted on the pre-paid phone card.

Once at the bus, passengers pass their mobile phones in front of a special optical reader which interprets, verifies and validates on the central server (via GPRS) the customer M-Ticket. The process ends when the special reader prints a ticket confirmation and beeps a valid sound.

This success project come forward as an association between TopSolutions, Telefónica Móviles España, BBVA and Mobipay, and was accomplished on time and on budget, addressing all EMT and Telefónica Móviles’s requirements.
